The parishioners at St. Vincent Ferrer are familiar with the Dominicans assigned to the parish, Fr. Tom Noesen, our new pastor, Fr. Robert Kilbridge and Fr. Albert Judy. Fr. Michael Kyte will arrive in November.. There are eight additional friars who are members of the Dominican community, each of whom has a ministry apart from the parish. They sometimes are visible as presiders at the daily liturgy and as concelebrants on the weekends.


 

Rev. Paul Whittington, O.P. is the elected prior of the community. He is responsible for leading the community in its spiritual growth and ministry. For several years he served Fenwick as a student counsellor. Currently he serves the senior and ailing friars at St. Pius Priory, 19th and Ashland, in Chicago, seeing to their medical care and well being. He commutes to St. Pius daily and visits the friars in the nursing home at Resurrection and at the rehab centers.



 

Fr. Vincent Zarlenga, O.P., is well-known to the Italian members of the parish. Vincent is the director of the Fra Angelico Art Foundation, Riverside, which fosters the development of religious art and artists. Inspired by the memory of his brother, the artist Fr. Fr. "Jack" O'Malley, O.P., was born and raised in Chicago, Father Jack O'Malley was ordained a Dominican in 1959. He taught philosophy at the University of Dallas and DePaul University, was Dean of Students at Fenwick High School in Illinois and was chaplain in the US Air Force. For 17 years Fr. O'Malley taught morality to the upper classmen at Fenwick while serving in the Illinois Air Guard and the US Air Force Reserves. He retired from the military with the rank of Colonel. In 1992 Father O'Malley made the poorest of the poor the focus of his work and began preaching on their behalf throughout the US. Rev. Peter Hereley, O.P., like Jack, is a preacher for a charitable fundraising group: The Christian Foundation for Children and Ageing. http://www.cfcausa.org/ and so he too is on the road almost every weekend. For several years Peter served as the business manager of the prestigious graduate school of scriptural studies based in Jerusalem. He continues his service to that community by serving as the President of the Chicago-based American Friends of the Ecole Biblique. In the past he has served in several campus ministries, and developed a radio and television ministry in Catholic inquiry. He has served also as the prior of the the community of the former St. Thomas Priory at Harlem and Division.

 

 

Rev. John J. Meany, O.P., like Fr. Herely also served the Ecole Biblique community as business manager. At present he is the Vicar Provincial and Provincial Business Manager for the Chicago province of St. Albert the Great. The provincial offices are near St. Pius on Ashland Ave. and so he too like Fr. Paul, is a daily commuter. John was ordained in 1987 and has a brother who is a priest in the archdiocese, Fr. Michael Meany, pastor of St. Damian, in Oak Forest.


 

 

 

Rev. Kevin O'Rourke, O.P., is a noted author on Medical Ethics. Health Care Ethics, with Fr. Benedict Ashley is a major Catholic resource for hospitals and physicians. As af former director of the Center for Health Care Ethics, he has written extensively on medical decision-making. He is currently teaching at Loyola University Medical School in Maywood.. Consulted by the American bishops on current health care issues, Kevin is one of the most respected ethicists in his field. Ordained in 1954, Kevin is a westsider who graduated from Fenwick and Notre Dame and a passionate fan of both schools.


 

 

Fr. Kevin Fane is a native of Dixon IL, and was ordained a Dominican in 1969. He began as a theology teacher in New Orleans LA. Spending 13 years in Minnesota, he was an associate pastor of Holy Rosary Church in Minneapolis and a campus minister at the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul. He was elected prior of the St. Albert's, Minneapolis, before being appointed pastor of Blessed Sacrament, Madison WI. In Chicago, at St. Pius, he turned to hospital ministry at St. Francis Hospital, Evanston, and with the Catholic Health Partner Hospitals: Columbus, St. Anthony, and St. Joseph Hospitals. Here at St. Vincent Ferrer Church he was associate pastor, after which he returned to hospital ministry and now serves as a hospital chaplain at Resurrection Medical Center on Talcott.

 

 

 

Fr. Jordan Kelly, O.P. is the youngest ordained of our friars.Ordained here in St. Vincent's on June 1, 2003. An experienced teacher, he now serves Fenwick,as the Chairman of the Theology Department and Coordinator of Student Affairs. Jordan is also an accomplished pastoral musician with credits from Baltimore and St. Louis.
